Design Process: CCMonth Logo Contest.

For this exercise I used the techniques read about for design process along with brainstorming and ideation in Chapter 2 of Aeris Sherin: Introduction to Graphic Design, to create a logo for Community College Month challenge.

I began this project by creating a mood board after researching over 50 or so college logos and choosing a selection based off of the specs provided by the challenge organizers of CCMonth. They advised to be creative. I wanted a classic design that would work for all colleges, a unifying symbol, like a bridge.

  • Moodboard

  • Drafts

  • Final

I began my this project by designing a rough sketch online using the Adobe Illustrator program alongside my mood board and began to explore what fit the idea I had, and exploring colors and shapes. Once I had a few ideas designed I shared my designs in black and white with my classmates and then chose a final design based on peer observation and suggestions.

Design colors where heavily inspired by yellows and blue’s, using color psychology, I wanted to invoke trust, comfort, and success. I ultimately choose marigold and deep navy blue along a with a sans serif font.
